Patients with glaucoma can trust the specialized services and skilled team at Valley’s Glaucoma Center of Excellence, located within our ophthalmology practice at 1200 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood.

The Center is led by Tanya Fooks, MD, a Valley ophthalmologist who has over 14 years of training and experience in diagnosing and treating patients with this serious condition.

The Center offers multidisciplinary care that combines treatment with highly personalized service, including a patient navigator who coordinates each patient’s care and answers all questions before, during, and after appointments. With a seamless coordination of care, scheduling and receiving care is simpler and easier for patients, while reducing the timeline for bringing sight-saving advances to patients.

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is the name for various eye diseases that can lead to vision loss and even blindness, due to the damage that is caused to the optic nerve.

Glaucoma cases in New Jersey are close to epidemic proportions, totaling 4,500,000 diagnosed and an estimated 60 million people worldwide – making it the second-leading cause of blindness, according to the World Health Organization. Although glaucoma is more common in older adults, it can occur at any age.  It's important that you visit your eye doctor regularly for an eye exam.
