What are Compounding Medications?
Compounding medications are custom-made drugs that are tailored to a patient’s specific needs by combining, mixing, or altering ingredients. These are often prescribed when:
- A medication or dose is not commercially available
- A patient has an allergy to an ingredient in a commercial drug product
- A mixture of medications is needed in one dosage
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved.
