When Should I Call My Healthcare Provider?

Contact your VAD coordinator if you have left ventricular assist device complications, such as:

  • Fever
  • Redness around the area where your LVAD goes through your skin
  • Pain in your chest or belly
  • Bleeding
  • Swelling in your back or lower body
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Issues with any part of your left ventricular assist device

What Follow-Up Appointments Will I Need?

Your VAD care team will follow you closely after discharge on a routine outpatient follow up visit schedule. Your VAD Coordinator and Heart Failure team will be closely involved in your care for the duration of your LVAD therapy. The goal is to focus on your quality of life and prevent rehospitalizations.
