For years, Janellis Lupo has suffered from tension headaches, and when they recently began to get worse, her husband suggested seeing a chiropractor.
“My husband works for Valley Health System and mentioned that Valley launched an integrative medicine practice,” said the 36-year-old. “Tylenol was no longer helping my headaches, so I called and explained what was going on and scheduled an appointment.”
In September 2024, Janellis began to see Lori Nuzzi, DC, Director of Integrative Medicine for Valley Medical Group. Dr. Nuzzi assessed Janellis at her first appointment, asked about her history, and prescribed an X-ray to visualize the bones and joints of the spine to review alignment. From there, Dr. Nuzzi developed a personalized treatment plan.
Janellis began to see Dr. Nuzzi for chiropractic care twice a week for two months, where they focused mainly on her neck.
“Once I leave Dr. Nuzzi’s office after an adjustment, I feel so much better. She is not just focused on the bones or your nervous system, but really focused on the whole person,” said Janellis. “I began having a lot of anxiety and was dealing with a lot of grief. After therapy one day, Dr. Nuzzi noticed something was wrong and talked with me. I felt comfortable speaking with her, and she began doing research about grief and helping me talk through things. Dr. Nuzzi cares deeply about her patients and is a kind and nurturing person.”
Due to her anxiety, Dr. Nuzzi’s office asked Janellis if she had ever done acupuncture before. She made an appointment to give it a try in November 2024.
“I never thought acupuncture would be for me, and I did not know what it was all about. I think people can be afraid of acupuncture due to not having a lot of education about it,” said Janellis. “However, once I learned and began to receive acupuncture, it really bridged the gap in my care.”
Janellis credits acupuncturist Daniel Yoo, LAc, for helping with her anxiety, grief, neck pain, and digestive system.
“I call Dan my wizard! He is very knowledgeable and down-to-earth. He suggested other testing and has made me feel empowered,” said Janellis. “At the office, I feel like I am amongst friends and family.”
“Chiropractic care and acupuncture came into my life when I was very lost in different ways. My brain and body were not aligned,” said Janellis. “Through their care, I feel more whole, and they were able to do that not only through their care, but through their energy and who they are as caring people. They truly are advocates for you, and they work cohesively together.”
