Robert J. Korst, MD, FACS, FCCP - Medical Director
Dr. Korst is the Chief of Oncology Surgical Services and Thoracic Surgery at The Valley Hospital and a Valley Medical Group oncologic thoracic surgeon. He is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery, and he received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship at Hartford Hospital, and midway through his residency at the University of Connecticut Integrated Program in General Surgery, Dr. Korst went to the National Institutes of Health's Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute as a research fellow in genetics. Before coming to Valley, Dr. Korst was a member of the departments of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Genetic Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Mark Shapiro, MD
Dr. Shapiro is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He received his medical degree at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he was honored to be awarded the Eugene W. Friedman, MD Prize for Clinical Excellence in Surgery. He completed a residency in general surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Midway through his residency, Dr. Shapiro accomplished a research fellowship in thoracic surgery in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He continued his training at Mount Sinai and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery, thoracic track. Dr. Shapiro is an attending physician with the division of Thoracic Surgery at The Valley Hospital. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
