As electrophysiologists, we offer highly specialized care for people with a weak heart muscle and decreased left ventricular ejection fraction (squeezing force of the heart) below 35% (normal is above 50%), also known as systolic heart failure.
Together with you, as a central member of the team, the best treatment plan is established based on careful evaluation.
In certain instances, as mentioned above, the weakening of the heart is produced by certain arrhythmias:
- Fast heartbeats for long periods, as can be seen with atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter or atrial tachycardia
- High burden of extra beats from the ventricles (premature ventricular contractions – PVCs)
In these situations, treatment of the underlying cardiac arrhythmia either with medication or a cardiac ablation procedure will lead to dramatic improvement of the cardiomyopathy and heart failure symptoms in most cases.
