As we close out 2024, it is a perfect time to reflect on the advancements, milestones, and initiatives achieved at The Valley Heart and Vascular Institute. This year has been one of transformation and innovation, and we are proud to share some highlights with you.
New Spaces for Advanced Care
The Valley Hospital
The Valley Hospital has relocated to Paramus, New Jersey, as the cornerstone of a 40-acre health and wellness campus. This state-of-the-art facility boasts an expanded Emergency Department and enhanced cardiovascular care capabilities. This move marked a significant milestone for providing patient-centered care in an environment designed for healing and wellness.
Medical Arts Pavilion
The Valley Heart and Vascular Institute’s hospital-based cardiovascular services now reside on the sixth and seventh floors of Valley’s Medical Arts Pavilion, located at 140 East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus, New Jersey. These services include teams specializing in electrophysiology, cardiovascular surgery, structural heart, interventional cardiology, heart failure, and cardiac rehabilitation. We are bringing these experts under one roof together to provide patients with seamless, comprehensive care.
Montvale
Cardiovascular services are also now available at Valley Medical Group’s location at 135 N. Kinderkamack Road in Montvale, New Jersey. Providers, including Stuart Barr, MD, Patricia Murphy, MD, and Arieh Greenbaum, MD, bring expertise to this new site, ensuring comprehensive care for our patients in the region.
National Recognition
We are proud to announce that The Valley Hospital has been rated as “high-performing” in the adult procedures and conditions of abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) by U.S. News & World Report for 2024–25. This honor reflects our commitment to providing our patients with leading-edge cardiac care.
New Technologies Revolutionizing Cardiac Care
Pulsed Field Ablation
The Valley Hospital treated New Jersey’s first patient using the FDA-approved PulseSelect™ Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) System, manufactured by Medtronic, for atrial fibrillation. Additionally, we adopted the FaraPulse™ Pulsed Field Ablation System, manufactured by Boston Scientific, further advancing our capabilities in this innovative treatment. These treatment options give us more tools to treat irregular heart rhythms safely and effectively, using ablation electric fields, which can result in a lower risk of collateral tissue being impacted.
CommandEP
We became the first center in New Jersey – and one of the first in the United States – to treat a patient using the FDA-cleared CommandEP holographic cardiac ablation platform, manufactured by SentiAR. This milestone also marked the world’s first instance of pulsed field ablation performed with CommandEP. This novel technology allows us to deliver more precise care during a cardiac ablation procedure by providing a holographic augmented reality visualization of the heart, making treatment safer and more effective for our patients.
Photon-Counting CT Scanners
The Valley Hospital is the first in New Jersey to utilize the Naeotom Alpha® CT scanner with Quantum Technology. This advanced imaging system provides ultra-clear images, helping us diagnose conditions more accurately and plan better treatments for our patients.
TriClip
Our structural heart team successfully performed the first procedure using the Abbott TriClip™ system. This minimally invasive device is designed to repair a leaky tricuspid valve and represents a new way to restore heart health with less recovery time.
Renal Denervation
In September, The Valley Hospital was one of only three institutions in New Jersey offering renal denervation (RDN), a minimally invasive, FDA-approved procedure to treat resistant hypertension (high blood pressure). This advancement underscores our commitment to addressing complex cardiovascular conditions with leading solutions.
New Team and Collaborative Initiative
This year, we launched a multi-disciplinary Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT). Comprising interventional cardiology and vascular surgery experts, PERT provides rapid treatment for acute and chronic pulmonary embolism (PE) – a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked by a blood clot – cases. This team ensures fast, effective care for patients with pulmonary embolism and supports them with long-term follow-up.
Research and Publications
Valley’s doctors have made significant contributions to the field of cardiovascular care, with more than 30 publications featured in prestigious medical journals this year.
In 2024, our Clinical Trials and Research program enrolled 234 participants across cardiac clinical trials, launching nine new studies. Currently, 18 trials are open for enrollment, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing cardiac care through innovative research. These studies help us bring the latest treatments to our patients.
As we look ahead to 2025, we remain committed to delivering exceptional cardiovascular care, leveraging the latest technologies, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
