According to the World Health Organization, high blood pressure is a significant global healthcare problem affecting more than one billion people worldwide and is directly associated with increased risks of heart attacks, stroke, heart failure, kidney disease, and death.

Renal denervation is a minimally invasive procedure to treat resistant hypertension – high blood pressure that does not respond well to multiple medications or medical treatment. The treatment targets nerves near the kidneys, which can become overactive and contribute to high blood pressure.

What is the Renal Denervation Procedure?

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Symplicity Spyral™ renal denervation (RDN) system – also known as the Symplicity blood pressure procedure – is a minimally invasive procedure that targets nerves near the kidneys that can become overactive and cause high blood pressure.

  • After sedation, the doctor inserts a very thin tube into the artery leading to the kidney.
  • The doctor then administers energy to calm the excessive activity of the nerves connected to the kidney.
  • The tube is removed, leaving no implant behind.

The Symplicity blood pressure procedure helps reduce blood pressure when medications and lifestyle changes aren’t enough.
