Valley offers biologic injections as a treatment option for severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – a lung disease causing restricted airflow and breathing complications.

Biologic injections are monoclonal antibodies that target immune pathways responsible for inflammation in asthma.

Please speak with your provider for an evaluation to see if biologic injections are right for you.

Biologic Injections for Asthma

Biologic injections for asthma may be for those who, despite regular asthma medications or inhalers, are still not breathing comfortably. This treatment may also be recommended to those who require frequent or chronic oral steroids to treat their asthma. When prescribed, biologic injections become a routine treatment along with inhalers and other medication.

The injections, which can be given at the office or self-administered at home, can help to reduce the need for steroids, reduce asthma symptoms, and improve quality of life.

Injections are administered typically once a month or every two months. Valley offers the following injections:

  • Nucala (mepolizumab) – administered once a month
  • Fasenra (benralizumab) – administered once every 2 months
  • Dupixent (dupilumab) – administered once every 2 weeks
  • Tezspire (tezepelumab) – administered once a month
  • Xolair (omalizumab) – administered once a month

Biologic Injections for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Biologic injections have now been approved to help treat COPD. The injection helps to reduce exacerbations and can help improve lung function.

Dupixent (dupilumab) is the first biologic injection to be approved to treat COPD. This injection has to be self-administered at home every two weeks.
