Valley Medical Group is pleased to announce that the Thyroid and Parathyroid Center is now performing radiofrequency ablation of thyroid nodules in the office of Valley’s Director of Endocrine Surgery, Anna Kundel, MD.
Radiofrequency ablation can be an alternative to surgery for select patients. Anyone who suspects they have a thyroid nodule or has been diagnosed with one, may be a candidate for the in-office procedure. Having the procedure performed in a doctor’s office can avoid anesthesia and allow for quicker recovery. Valley is one of few institutions in the state to offer this procedure in an outpatient, physician’s-office setting.
“The procedure is performed with local anesthesia, focuses exclusively on shrinking nodules, and does not remove any part of the thyroid gland,” says Dr. Kundel. “The advantages of radiofrequency ablation to surgery include increased likelihood of preservation of thyroid function, avoiding general anesthesia and a generally shorter recovery time with a quick return to normal activities,” she adds.
Dr. Kundel is Valley Medical Group’s Medical Director of Endocrine Surgery and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Valley’s Thyroid and Parathyroid Center is located at 1200 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Dr. Kundel works in collaboration with endocrinologists throughout the state.
